Incredible India, that’s the slogan Government of India has coined to promote India tourism. Very true, the country has many incredible destinations. Kerala, “The God’s Own County” is the southernmost state of India. The state has wonderful plains with coconut trees, coastal areas with beaches and an international airport. Goa, the coastal city in western India has unsullied beaches that attract large number of tourists round the year. No wonder the coastal city of Goa is fondly called “The Pearl of the Ocean” by the avid tourists.
Kashmir, also known as the “Paradise on Earth” is famous for its Shikara tourist boats in which you can enjoy a spellbound joy ride in Dal Lake. The state is also famous for its juicy apples. Taj Mahal in Agra is famous for its white marble mausoleum. Indian craftsmen are known to preserve their centuries old traditions till date. Their craftsmanship, sculptures, dance, music and paintings leave the tourists amazed. One can have close encounter with wildlife in sanctuaries located in Kaziranga, Corbett, Sariska, Ranthambore, Kanha, Bharatpur, Panna and Pench. Bodhgaya is the most sacred place for Buddhists around the world.
The holy city of Bodhgaya is located in Bihar state of India and is considered pious by tourists as Buddha attained enlightenment here. The magnificent Vihara was constructed by Emperor Ashoka in the second century BC in Bodhgaya, which is a major tourist attraction now. Varanasi, Tirupati, Khajuraho, Pushkar, Vrindavan and Mathura are famous for their magnificent temples. The annual Jagannath Yatra of Puri attracts millions of tourists from across the world. Besides temples, the country also has world’s largest brick minaret in Delhi (Qutab Minar) and the country’s oldest church is located in the southern state of Kerala. All these holy cities reflect the unity in diversity of Indian people.
Indian tourism has several facets. India tour packages include health tourism, ethnic tourism, wildlife tourism, Monsoon tourism, beach tourism, recreational tourism, special interest tourism and backwater tourism. With the coming of Commonwealth Games to be held at the end of 2010, India Tours and Travel has got a boost. The Government of India has also taken several initiatives to boost India tours and travels. India has largest railway network in Asia.
Its all major tourist destinations are connected by railways, airways and roads. India tour packages are offered by India Tourism and government approved travel agents. India tour packages could include helicopter ride to hilly areas in the eastern region, bus travel to southern plains and safari tours by cars to wild sanctuaries. India Tourism has seen a significant increase in the number of tourists in recent years and India tours are fancied by all tourists.

the difference between singapore and india is that singapore is one of the cleanest places ive ever seen
in order to increase tourism, india has improve its infrastructure- and this likely cannot happen in a couple of years-it would take much longer
they are already taking steps towards this-ive seen malls similar to the US malls-which were really clean
i go to india often, but i notice the Americans who go there don't enjoy having to deal with stray dogs and salespeople on the street and worrying a lot more about the safety factor.
i went to the taj recently and there was animal feces everywhere, monkeys on the walkways, and dirt everywhere
they need to put more effort into beautification.
another example is the sidewalks, they are just blocks that may or may not fall when you step on them.
if you make a trip in europe or america and then go to india, you will see why tourism is not as high.
tourists love the idea of rickshaws and stuff but it is not as fun when the dust is flying in their faces
i love going to india to visit family and stuff-but it would be so much more pleasant if they cleaned up a bit
and maybe enforced some honking laws
i'm not sure but there are cities like Datong, Dengfeng (near Shaolin Temple), Luoyang, Urumqi, and many more that people do go to but not as widely talked about like beijing, shanghai, hangzhou, nanjing, guangzhou, hong kong, etc.
